THE PAD IS ONLY AS GOOD AS THE BASE UNDER IT
Gravel Pad Installation in Mechanicsburg, PA for Hot Tubs and Sheds
A gravel pad looks like a simple job, and that is exactly why so many of them fail. What holds a hot tub or a shed level over years is not the gravel you can see. It is the depth of the excavation, the compaction of the base underneath, and whether water has somewhere to go when the ground freezes and thaws through a Pennsylvania winter.
We install gravel pads across Mechanicsburg, Camp Hill, Enola, and Cumberland County, sized to whatever is going on top of them. We bring our own skid steer, plate compactor, MT Bobcat 100, and dump truck, so the excavation, the base, and the stone all happen on one visit with our own operator running the work.
“We’ve used Red Rock for years and are always happy with their work. Great company to deal with. Highly recommend for your landscaping needs.”

GET STARTED WITH GRAVEL PAD INSTALLATION!
WHAT A GRAVEL PAD IS USUALLY FOR
The two we are asked for most:
Hot tub pads — a filled tub carries serious weight, and it concentrates that weight on a small footprint, so the base has to be built for the load rather than the footprint
Shed pads — a shed that settles unevenly stops closing properly, and the doors are usually the first thing to tell you
If you have something else in mind, tell us what it is and roughly what it weighs. That is what sizes the pad.
WHAT A GRAVEL PAD INCLUDES
Pad size and depth depend on what is going on it, so we confirm both at the visit. The work covers:
Excavating and grading the area to the depth the load calls for
A compacted base, run with our own plate compactor
Gravel delivered in our own dump truck and set to grade
A pad sized to the hot tub, shed, or structure you have chosen
Our project minimum is $625.
THE PART THAT MATTERS MOST: FREEZE AND THAW
What base should a hot tub sit on? Most gravel pad failures are not gravel failures. They are base failures, and they show up in the first spring. Water sits in an under-compacted or under-drained base, freezes, expands, and lifts the pad. When it thaws, everything settles back unevenly. One corner drops, and a hot tub that was dead level in October is visibly off by April.
This is the same problem we have been solving under paver patios and segmental retaining walls since 2001: excavate deep enough, compact in the right lifts, and grade so water leaves rather than collects. A gravel pad is a smaller version of a base we build every week of the season, and it gets built to the same standard.
HOW WE QUOTE IT
Dave measures the spot himself and confirms what is going on the pad before anything is quoted, because the load is what drives the depth. You will have a detailed estimate within three business days of that visit. Once the December schedule opens, most pads go on the calendar within a week or two of you approving the estimate. The crew that builds it is Red Rock's own, running the same base standards we use under every patio and wall we install.
SERVING MECHANICSBURG AND CUMBERLAND COUNTY
We install gravel pads in Mechanicsburg, Camp Hill, Enola, Dillsburg, Carlisle, Harrisburg, New Cumberland, Lemoyne, and Shermansdale. Gravel pad work runs December through February, so the pad is built and ready well ahead of delivery day for the tub or the shed.
