BELOW GRADE, NOT FLUSH WITH IT
Stump Grinding Services in Mechanicsburg, PA
A stump ground flush with the lawn is not finished. It is hidden. The wood is still there an inch under the surface, which means grass will not establish over it, a shovel will hit it the first time you try to plant anything, and the whole thing has to be dealt with again in a few years when it starts to rot and sink.
We grind stumps across Mechanicsburg, Camp Hill, Enola, and Cumberland County, taking them down below grade so the ground above can be used again. Our own operator, our own grinder, our own dump truck.
“Completed the work within the time frame he gave me. It turned out great. I would hire him again.”

WHEN PEOPLE CALL US ABOUT A STUMP
The usual reasons:
Storm damage — a tree that came down in a storm has been cut up and hauled off, and the stump is what is left
A stump that has been there for years and has become something you mow around every week
Ground you want back for a planting bed, level lawn, or the next project on the property
WHAT GRINDING A STUMP INVOLVES
Tree stump removal size and how far the roots have run are what set the price, so we look before we quote. The work covers:
Grinding the stump down below grade rather than flush to the surface
Stumps left behind from storm-damaged trees that are already down
Stumps that have been sitting on the property for years
Grindings loaded into our dump truck and hauled off the property
Our project minimum is $625.
WHY ROOT SPREAD DECIDES THE JOB
The visible stump is the small part of the problem. A mature tree puts out a root flare that spreads well past the trunk, and on a stump close to a patio, a walkway, or a foundation, those roots are the reason grinding takes judgment rather than just horsepower. Grind too shallow and the spot is unusable. Grind without knowing what is nearby and you are working next to utility lines, irrigation, and hardscape edges that are expensive to catch.
Dave looks at size, location, and root spread before the job is scheduled, which is the same assessment we make before excavating for any patio or wall on a property. Knowing what is under a surface before a machine touches it is most of this trade.
THE CREW AND THE ASSESSMENT
Stump grinding runs through the same crew as everything else Red Rock does, on a property we may well have worked on before. We have been working across Cumberland County since 2001. You will have a detailed estimate within three business days of the on-site assessment, so you know the cost before anything goes on the calendar. Once the December schedule opens, most stumps go on the calendar within a week or two of you approving the estimate.
SERVING MECHANICSBURG AND CUMBERLAND COUNTY
We grind stumps in Mechanicsburg, Camp Hill, Enola, Dillsburg, Carlisle, Harrisburg, New Cumberland, Lemoyne, and Shermansdale. This is winter work for us, December through February, which is the quiet stretch to clear out anything last season's storms left behind.
