WHAT IS ALREADY DOWN THERE COMES FIRST
Trenching Services in Mechanicsburg, PA for Water and Electric Lines
Running a water line out to a barn or power out to a garage is a straightforward job right up until a machine finds something nobody knew was buried. Gas, electric, water, and communication lines are all in the ground on established properties, and they are rarely where people assume.
We trench for water and electric lines across Mechanicsburg, Camp Hill, Enola, and Cumberland County. Every job starts with a PA One Call so the existing utilities are located and marked before the excavator moves, and the trench is dug by our own operator on our own machine.
“Noah and Jude did a great job! They were extremely professional and personable. They made sure we were 100% satisfied with their work. Highly recommended.”

WHAT WE TRENCH FOR
If you are working out how to dig for a water line or an electric line, these are the runs we are asked for most:
Water lines — out to a barn, an outbuilding, a spigot, or a line that needs replacing
Electric lines — power run underground to a garage, a shop, or a detached structure
Land prep along the route where the ground needs it
WHAT TRENCHING INCLUDES
Depth and run length depend on what is going in the ground, so we walk the route with you first. The work covers:
Placing the PA One Call so existing utilities are located and marked before we start
Trenching for water lines and electric lines
Digging to the depth and along the route your line requires
Land prep along the run where it is needed
Our project minimum is $625.
TWO THINGS DECIDE A TRENCH JOB
Two things decide whether a trench job is finished or just filled in.
The first is the locate. PA One Call is the statewide service that gets existing utilities marked before excavation, and it is not optional or a formality: hitting a line is dangerous, expensive, and entirely avoidable. Pennsylvania law gives the facility owners three business days to come out and mark the site, so the locate sets the earliest day a machine can break ground. We place that call on every job and build the schedule around it.
The second is depth. A water line that sits above the frost line can freeze, and in central Pennsylvania that is not a theoretical risk, it is a January phone call. Electric runs have their own burial depth requirements depending on how the line is protected. Getting either one wrong means opening the same ground twice, which is why the route and the depth are settled at the walkthrough rather than worked out with a machine already running.
BEFORE THE FIRST CUT
Dave walks the route with you before anything is quoted, and you will have a detailed estimate within three business days. Once you approve it, the PA One Call goes in and the dig is scheduled around the locate, which usually puts most trenching jobs on the calendar within a week or two of approval during the December stretch. The crew that digs it is Red Rock's own crew on Red Rock's own mini excavator. We have been excavating on Cumberland County properties since 2001, most of it for patios, walls, and drainage, which is the same work of reading a site and knowing what is under it before breaking ground.
SERVING MECHANICSBURG AND CUMBERLAND COUNTY
We take on trenching in Mechanicsburg, Camp Hill, Enola, Dillsburg, Carlisle, Harrisburg, New Cumberland, Lemoyne, and Shermansdale. Trenching runs December through February, ahead of the spring rush on outbuilding and utility projects.
